The instrument features a device for changing the pitch of the trumpet from Bb to A. The second valve casing shows the number 680 which I take to be the model number. Exact dating of Courtois instruments is impossible, but my guess is that this trumpet was manufactured soon after Selmer 's initial involvement. He was one of the most famous and respected of the Paris manufacturers. Directly beneath that is an additional stamping, in a slightly different font, which reads: H&A SELMER INC. The inscription on the bell displays ANTOINE COURTOIS Brevete FACTEUR DU CONSERVATOIRE NATIONAL 88.
